Alice's Wonderland Family Science Events

Dear Educator,

In addition to the activities found in the Activities K-3 and Activities 3-6 sections of this Web site, Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose has developed a few different events to encourage parents and children to explore together. These workshops and events feature both the activities included in the other sections of this Web site and some new activities developed specifically for the workshop setting.

Family Science Nights

Typically held at a school site in the evenings, Family Science Nights create an opportunity for children, parents, and teachers to interact with engaging hands-on science activities. The Museum provides all necessary materials, activity write-ups and a 45-minute training for classroom teachers just prior to the evening event. The school provides 12 teachers, 10 tables, and recruitment for the event. Read Conducting Family Science Nights to learn more about these events.

Parent-Child Workshops

In contrast to the large group events, Parent-Child Workshops provide an in-depth experience for a small group of parents and children. Two and a half hours in length, Parent-Child Workshops include ten parent-child pairs who work together to explore, discover, make links to the "Alice in Wonderland" story, and become 'curiouser and curiouser.' Read Conducting Parent-Child Workshops to learn more about these programs.
