A group must work together to move successfully a ball from one end of a line to the other using a series of ramps.
Materials needed:
- 1 ramp per participant. Try making ramps out of things you find around your house, such as serial boxes or other cardboard disposables.
- balls of different sizes and materials
To do:
- Allow each participant to choose a ramp.
- Line participants up side-by-side and have them introduce themselves to their neighbors on each side.
- Instruct them to try and create one continuous ramp with the various pieces. Each participant can only touch his/her own section.
- Challenge the group to move a ball from one end of the line all the way to the other end without touching the ball or allowing it to fall.
- After the group has had success, discuss difficulties and their solutions, observations, and successful strategies.
- With knowledge gained, challenge the group to see how far they can move the ball without letting it fall. They can make the line longer by always adding the first person to the end of the line as soon as the ball has passed off their section of the ramp.
- Can they move more than one ball at a time?
